San Francisco Decorator Showcase
San Francisco, CA
Built in 1908, the Classical Revival home that serves as the setting for the 2014 San Francisco Decorator Showcase sits on a third of an acre overlooking the Presidio and the San Francisco Bay. We were charged with reinventing the home’s dining room. Our approach was to bring a contemporary sensibility to a very traditional room by utilizing hand-wrought details and contemporary artwork. At the center of the room, we designed and built a hexagonal dining table draped to the floor, then paired it with mid-century Italian chairs. Hand-painted wallpaper with a nature-inspired adds color to the room, and complements the existing faux-bois, which the homeowner wanted to save. Silk drapes and ombre shades added to the existing chandelier pick up hues from the wallpaper, while colorful artwork provides a contemporary balance and plays with the sense of perspective. Finally, we added woven-wood scrim over the windows to diffuse the light, and invoke a romantic atmosphere in this fairytale room.
